WE SELL RUGS ON CONSIGNMENT

We sell rugs on consignment. That’s what we state on our website, in our newsletters, in our office, and on a huge banner above our garage door.

What started out as simply a means for moving out area rugs that had never been retrieved by their owners has turned into a win-win proposition for our customers and their friends, as well as for ABC.

WHY WE SELL RUGS ON CONSIGNMENT

In April of 2013, we made the decision to have a sale of all of our ‘orphaned rugs.’ We spent several weeks making a final effort to contact their owners. We then priced all the rugs reasonably (to recover cleaning fees), and sent emails to our customers to let them know we were having a rug sale.

The response was incredible. The sale started at 10am, and by 9am there was a line at the door all the way out into the driveway! By Noon, all the rugs had been purchased.

Shortly after our big sale, continuing feedback from our customers proved that finding good, clean area rugs at reasonable prices could fill an important need for customers in our community. Many began asking it we were going to have another sale, especially customers who had missed the sale because they had not yet given us their email addresses.

Unfortunately, we had sold all those orphaned rugs and we had also changed our procedures for contacting customers who don’t pick up their rugs in a timely manner. Fortunately, our staff saw an opportunity to help our customers in the future by providing a safe place for them to buy and sell rugs at a reasonable price, while also giving us the opportunity to clean and/or repair those rugs as per the seller or buyer. We put the word out to our community about our ability to sell rugs on consignment and a new arm of our business started growing.

Today, customers bring rugs to us to sell on consignment. They consider it a big advantage because it allows them to put their unwanted rugs up for sale, have them displayed and promoted, and not have to encourage strangers to come to their home.

DO YOU HAVE A RUG
YOU WOULD LIKE TO SELL?

If you are considering selling a rug or rugs on consignment, here is how it works:

• Bring us your unwanted rug or rugs. We may be able to pick them up for you at no charge, if necessary, but they must be rolled and ready.
• Your rug must be cleaned and treated by us before we will hang it. If you would like any repairs done, we can do that also.

• We will apply a moth retardant to your rug after cleaning and/or repair at no extra charge.

• You choose the amount of the sale price. We will be happy to give you guidance for this.

• Any and all negotiations will take place between you and the potential buyer.

• ABC will take a percentage of the sales price (see our Consignment Policy below).

• We reserve the right to decline any rug offered for sale on consignment. We will not sell certain types of rugs with a backing, known as tufted rugs.

WHY DO WE CHARGE A CONSIGNMENT FEE?

Our consignment fee ensures labor for hanging and staging a rug, maintaining insurance and moth protection, promoting the rug to walk-in customers, maintaining the consignment rug page on our website, and posting to Facebook.

OUR RUG CONSIGNMENT POLICY

• Our consignment fee will be at 30% for the first 3 months your rug is displayed at our offices.
• The consignment fee will be at 40% for the 4th month.
  
• The consignment fee will be at 50% for the 5th and 6th months.
• If the rug is not sold at the completion of 6 months, the owner will be notified the rug must be picked up within 1 week.
• If the unsold rug is not picked up within 1 week, storage fees will begin to accrue.
• After 90 days, if the unsold rug has not been picked up, it will become the property of ABC and may be sold to recoup costs or destroyed.
  

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A RUG?

If you are looking for a rug to purchase, here is how it works:

• Feel free to come to our offices during work hours to view the rugs. (8am to 5pm Monday through Thursday. Close at 4:30pm on Fridays. Open from 10am to 1pm on the 1st & 3rd Saturday of each month).

• We post photos and prices for all consignment rugs for sale on our website, www.abcclean.com.

• We will also post photos periodically on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/abcorientalrug.

• Any negotiations will take place between you and the seller and you are welcome to make an offer.
• You will pay the appropriate sales tax at the time of payment and be prepared to take your rug home. Delivery may be available for rugs over 8’x10’.
